A Newsletter...?

Memorial Bone and Joint ClinicWhat's a doctor's office and a research foundation doing sending out newsletters! Well, this is our easiest way of keeping you informed on a regular basis on what we have achieved, and where we are headed. Not only is this comprehensive, but also a little different from "what the doctor prescribed!" We are eager to get your feedback.

Our Newest Studies

Not only are we putting time, money and effort into databases (Registries) that are a first in America, but we are also carrying out studies to prove that the computer navigated and robot assisted surgeries that Dr Kreuzer is doing are better based on sound scientific logic.

Although these techniques are FDA approved, methods like the MAKOplasty and Stryker's navigation system as well as Synvasive's eLibra pressure balancing technology are all new and the Research Foundation is going to great lengths to have them recognized for their value. This is done by collecting data on our own patients, comparing it to traditional methods, and after a lot of computations, labor intensive analysis, and Dr. Kreuzer's eagle eye, we publish and benchmark these results. So far research papers proving the point have been accepted at many national and international meetings (for more details go to our website www.orthoresearch.org).

Exxtend: One of the newest industry sponsored studies is for establishing the efficacy of a single knee pain injection instead of the traditional 3 injections over 3 consecutive weeks. One of the better known injections on the market (Euflexxa) is being tested in this study as a single dose at the Memorial Bone & Joint Clinic among 33 other sites. Currently we are among the top enrollers of subjects for this study nationwide. Learn more at http://www.kneepainclinicaltrial.com/

A Mecca for Practicing Surgeons...

...and health for many more patients!

The Research Foundation's mother ship is now mature enough to bring a small baby in to the world of surgical skills teaching and perfecting known advanced techniques.

This type of facility is not new, but is lacking in our part of the country for the average surgeon unable to go to one of the big corporate hospitals post graduation. The humble beginnings of a local Surgical Skills Training Lab are in its planning stages, and will afford Dr Kreuzer and other leading surgeons to spread the good techniques by allowing surgeons already performing surgeries to further train on these advanced techniques.

These Orthopedic surgeons who have been in clinical practice for years need places like this to learn newer techniques, and surgeons like Dr Kreuzer need facilities like this to experiment with new techniques so as to fine tune them without experimenting on live patients. In the end multiples of patients will be benefiting as each new surgeon trained can carry out many more surgeries rather than just a handful of strained surgeons.

How Many Joints Make A Clinic?

Donate to ResearchNot only are most of our gracious donors benefactors of our joint surgeries, but they also join forces to help make a strong foundation for a bright future of research. We would like to recognize the following contributors with infinite gratitude for binding the 'bones-and-joints' of the research efforts:

Supporting all our knees & hip joints: $25,000 - $50k

  1. This is in our grant-a-wish category

Supporting our major joints: $10,000 - $25k

  1. The Mailman Foundation
  2. Mako Surgical Corporation

Making partial (re)placements possible: < $10,000

  1. Research Concepts
  2. Waltrip McGee
  3. Khushalani Foundation
  4. Gary & Yvonne Alden
  5. Richard & Linda Dole
  6. Scott Fricke
  7. Art & Cindy Hudson
  8. Jaswant & Lyra Sihra
  9. Rosemary Donnelly
  10. Drew Molin

Computer Assisted Surgery VideosAbove all: Kudos to the friends like Ms Nicolau and patients who have patiently participated in the research trials and activities allowing the precious work to be done.

For more information and how you can get involved please visit us at www.orthoresearch.org and consider donating (even if it's a small check, it goes a long way when put together with every other drop in the bucket). Thanks

What's Next?

Donate to Research In January 2010 the clinic will move to the new location near Beltway 8 and I-10 on Business Center Dr (old Town & Country Hospital).

The Research offices will shift there as well, and
  1. Plans to build the skills training center will begin to take final shape at that location. We need your continued support during this effort. Click on the right to learn more, or visit our website to know the team!
  2. Renew efforts in finding clinical trials not affiliated with sponsoring drug companies which are possible only with your small or substantial monetary donations.
Season's best wishes from the Memorial Bone & Joint Research Foundation
